Fair Day in Shercock 2025
Bringing a slice of Ireland’s past to life with a “Fair Day in Shercock.”
This piece pays tribute to the characters and atmosphere of a typical Fair Day in rural Ireland during the 1940s–60s. It was a time when the local fair wasn’t just about trading livestock — it was a gathering full of theatre, banter, and human connection.
A focal point of the mural is the farmers “sealing the deal.” It was a ritual in itself - a loud clap of hands to confirm a bargain, making sure everyone nearby knew that business had been done!
Also featured is Margaret Barry, the legendary travelling musician who often performed in Shercock on Fair Days. She’s an incredible figure - a self-taught banjo player and singer who went on to perform with Bob Dylan and even took the stage at Carnegie Hall in New York.
